I have alterations to make, clothes to sew and patterns to complete...but what did I choose to do instead over the weekend?
Deck my halls and put up the tree.

I have lived in my house for nearly 6 years and I have never put up any Christmas decorations until THIS year. Maybe it's because I have a 2-year-old who might now begin to appreciate the celebrating of Christmas and what that entails. Maybe it was because I not really looking forward to it this time and needed to jump start my enthusiasm.
(And it's a good thing we have a store-room-full of used decorations from when the husband used to do shopping mall decoration)

After spending the whole of Saturday and some of Sunday putting things up, I am finally getting that Christmas feeling, helped enormously by the weather (constant rain - not Christmas without thunderstorms in these parts!).

And Nikhita has been reverently watching the lights twinkle in the tree.

Next week, I'm even going to attempt making gingerbread cookies ;)

I started sewing at 9 years old. Yes, I was that child who cut old table cloths to make floral printed dresses for her stuffed animals. Two decades later, I quit a steady career in teaching to start my own business in the apparel industry. It's been a couple more decades and I can't seem to stop (yes, I have tried). So with a sense of joyous resignation, I continue to create custom clothing and patterns, and find time to teach drafting and sewing at my studio and online.
